Task Description
The assignment was to install Windows 95 on a PC that already had
Windows 3.11. To verify the installation of Windows 95, we were
required to configure a TCP/IP connection and run Netscape (already
installed).
Installation Summary
Since the installation went smoothly, there is very little to write up
concerning the process. Between following the assignment notes and
the on-screen instructions, the steps were very clear. The only item
that offered a point of pause was a screen that asked for a "Microsoft
Networking" password. This was not covered in the instructions, so we
simply entered nothing and clicked "OK." This took us on to the next
screen without any further problems.
Having the instructions made the TCP/IP installation simple, but I
wondered how easy it would have been to configure this without them.
I suspect that it would have taken a fair amount of hunting around to
locate the appropriate items. The ability of Windows 95 to locate
appropriate drivers, however, is a great advantage over the earlier
DOS days.
Once we finished the installation process, we started Netscape. It
had no difficulty connecting to the Internet through our TCP/IP
connection. We even tried a few unusual URLs to ensure that we were
not viewing cached files.
