Introduction

There are two types of class work: Assignments and Lab Exercises. These were done both individually and with a partner, so some of the papers bear two names. Although the responsibility for the content was shared in these cases, I bore primary responsibility for the HTML construction. As the semester progresses, I will be adding more Assignments and Lab Exercises.

Assignments

• System Description. This is a description of the hardware and software used in the Slavic Library Cataloging System. Done with Elena Shalygina, who works as a graduate assistant doing cataloging in the Slavic Library.
• Popular Press Evaluation. The purpose of this assignment was to "evaluate the evaluators."
• Competitive Pricing. Use either a real or created situation to compare the prices of a complete technology system from three vendors, at least one of which is mail order and one is retail.
• Library Automation Vendor Profile: Innovative Interfaces, Inc.. Examines the history, sales figures, products, and strengths and weaknesses of the automation vendor Innovative. The assignment is a report that would be useful to a library committee seeking to evaluate Innovative as possible choice for an automation system.
• E-mail Client Comparison. Compares Eudora Light 3.0 and PC-Pine e-mail clients for Windows.

Lab Exercises

• Schematic Diagram. This is a graphic presentation of the motherboard and tower layout of my computer.
• Macintosh Software Installation. Required the downloading and installation of three software packages onto a Macintosh. Although this is my own write-up of the procedure, I worked with another student on this exercise.
• Windows 95 Software Installation. A brief description of a straightforward installation of Windows 95.
• E-mail Client Installation: Eudora Light 3.0. Describes and evaluates the process of installing and configuring Eudora Light 3.0 for Windows 3.11.
• NT Shared Resources. Involved the creation of a user group, individual user, and the sharing of a printer and a CD-ROM drive.
