This course will expose students to fundamental and current concepts in fisheries management.  A study of the principles, methods, and concerns of fisheries managers will be discussed in both a lecture and laboratory setting.  Students will be required to critically think about the concepts we discuss and present their views on these topics in both written and oral exercises.

Meeting Time/Place:

Fall 2009

LECTURE: MWF 11:00-11:50 am

LAB: T 3:15-6:00 pm

Course Objectives:

  • To understand the principles of fisheries management and some of the methods currently used in fisheries management.

  • To participate in class discussions of fisheries management issues.

  • To recognize the limitations of fisheries management.

  • To recognize the impact that fisheries management has on society.

  • To evaluate the quality of current fisheries management literature.

  • To understand the challenges associated with fisheries management.
