The Applied Engineering and Technology Department (AET) at California University of Pennsylvania will host the 2006 Governor’s Institute for Technology Education (GITE) from July 23 to 28.
The GITE is funded by Governor Ed Rendell through the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The funding will allow up to 100 Pennsylvania teachers to attend a weeklong, hands-on workshop to update their knowledge and skills related to current developments in the field of technology education. The training is designed to be intensive, and daily sessions last from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., according to Dr. Stan Komacek, AET department chair.
“Special focus will be given to the Pennsylvania standards and assessment anchors included in the state’s PSSA assessment system,” Komacek said. “The teachers earn two graduate credits that they can apply toward their Act 48 professional continuing certification.”
Act 48, which became effective in July 2000, requires that all Pennsylvania public educators holding certification participate in ongoing professional education.
