STEM curriculum supplements developed by SAE International for grades 4/5. One challenge has students design a set of paper skimmers (simple sailing toys) that reliably meet specific performance criteria. The JetToy challenge has students make balloon-powered toy cars that perform in a specific way. Free classroom kits of materials for the challenges are available from SAE.
