WELCOME
Statement of Purpose
This website is developed primarily as a resource for my students, although I sincerely
hope that non-student visitors will also find it instructive and useful as a learning
tool. It's designed to support and teach about the kind of life I respect and try to live.
That life is a dissenting one, guided by critical theoretical principles, such as feminist
theory and Marxism, and performed through radical democratic practices, such as
vegetarianism, environmentalism, and radicalteaching. I advocate multiculturalism,
socialist democracy, and anti-imperialism. I oppose sexism and heterosexism, racism, and
unfettered global market capitalism. As I draw
inspiration from scholars, activists, and public intellectuals from across the critical
theoretical spectrum, I add my own internet voice to theirs in what I intend to be a performative
act in the struggle against patriarchal, racial, and class oppression. The purpose
of my website is simply that users might learn new knowledge and might develop critical
literacies that will empower them to add their own voices.
